LAST CHANCE
ORANGE CITY — Some help is needed, but the Webster City football team still has playoff hopes alive.
First and foremost, the Lynx will need a win here Friday night when they conclude the regular season vs. MOC-Floyd Valley.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Northwestern College’s Korver Field.
Webster City (3-5 overall, 2-2 in district) currently sits third overall behind Bishop Heelan and Sioux Center. Humboldt plays Sioux Center, and a win by both the Wildcats and Lynx would create a three-way tie for the runner-up spot.
In the latest Iowa High School Athletic Association RPI rankings, Webster City is 19th. Sioux Center sits fifth and Humboldt is 16th.
The Lynx secured a 35-21 victory over Algona last week, improving to 2-2 in their last four overall. That includes a 21-14 win vs. Humboldt.
Senior Jaxon Griffith has a team-high 722 yards rushing while classmate Aiden Hrnicek has 12 touchdowns to go along with 661 yards on the ground. He has also thrown for a pair of scores and 160 more yards, with Griffith catching nine passes for 145 and both touchdowns.
Griffith, Hrnicek, Gavin Wynkoop, Coyce Bertran, Carter Mickelson and Eli Estlund each have over 20 tackles, as Estlund recorded a single-game school-record three sacks vs. the Bulldogs.
For MOC-Floyd Valley, Dylan Maasdam is one of the leading rushers in Class 3A, racking up 1,143 yards and seven touchdowns. Quarterback Carson Carmichael has thrown for 702 yards and ran in seven scores, as four different receivers have over 100 yards each.
This is the first meeting between the two schools in the Bound-era.
