The Webster City volleyball team dug deep on Tuesday night.

The Lynx (17-10 overall) jumped out to a 25-17 first set win over Fort Dodge (4-20), but dropped the next two contests 25-21 and 25-12.

Webster City found the confidence in Game 4 coming back for a double-digit 25-15 victory after losing by 13.

“The girls did a good job of keeping their composure,” said Webster City head coach Jess Howard. “We had to play catch up, but they were finding away (Game 4) and finished aggressively.”

The fifth and deciding fifth set went back-and-forth after the Dodgers built a 9-2 advantage. The Lynx closed out the match on an 18-9 run to win 20-18.

“We started out slow (in Game 5), trailing 9-2,” Howard said. “But the girls kept their composure and kept Fort Dodge to one serve and getting runs on our side.

“We just didn’t second guess ourselves in the final set.”

Tristyn Wright had a strong night attacking, going 63-for-71 with 27 kills. Evie Davis was 22-for-30 with six kills. Avery Poppen and Ashlee Nydegger were both 21 of 25 with Poppen having two kills. Lovie Pruismann was 14-for-16 with five kills.

Morgan Hackbarth had a strong defensive performance with 30 digs, while Pruismann and Janey Putney had 19 each. Wright had 13 and Pruismann had 10.

Davis had seven blocks and Wright had three. Pruismann led the Lynx with 32 assists.

At the service line Poppen and Pruismann were perfect on 12 and 10 tries respectively. Nydegger was 19-for-20. Hailey Brim was 15 of 17 with four aces. Alivia Burns was 15-for-16 with three aces and Hackbarth was 8-for-9 with an ace.

“Defensively Alivia, Janey, Morgan and Tristyn were controlling the court and getting to balls in play,” Howard said. “Tristyn clearly had a great night and the other girls were pulling and giving her an opening.

“Lovie did a great job of distributing the ball.”

The Lynx are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
