Callahan earns silver at NCC Meet

ALGONA — The Webster City cross country team earned a pair of all-North Central Conference honors here Tuesday, led by runner-up Justin Callahan.

Callahan scored silver at the league meet to lead the Lynx, clocking a time of 17:22. His finish helped Webster City place third overall behind Clear Lake and Algona.

Algona’s Gavin Weber was the race winner in 16:02.

Aidan Wardell finished 17th in 18:39, Jack Barner was right behind in 18th in 18:52, Kaleb Draeger placed 26th and Gabe Thumma gave the Lynx five in the Top-30 by finishing 30th.

Daniel Murillo-Delfin was 31st and Kyzer Zinnel finished 43rd.

Izzy Grossoheme also was named all-NCC, placing sixth overall in 21:07. Saylor Schmitt of Clear Lake was the race winner in 19:40.

The Lynx finished fifth overall behind Humboldt, Clear Lake, St. Edmond and Iowa Falls-Alden.

Mckenna Buakham was 30th in 24:38 followed by Marlene Saavedra in 32nd, Julia Griep in 35th, Rubi Andrade-Murillo in 45th and Haedyn Soesbee in 47th.

“It was a great night of running at the NCC meet,” WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. “We had awesome times to go along with cool temps and rain.”

In junior varsity action, Leland Eggers was 11th, Colten Betts finished 16th, Grayson Henderson was 19th, Owen Anderson 22nd and Tariq Burton 23rd. For the girls, Abby Peterson finished 10th, Heidi Mendoza was 11th, Victorious Mirembe 19th and Izzy McNiel 22nd.

The Lynx now prepare for district next Wednesday.
