Webster City in action at W-SR
WAVERLY — The Webster City cross country team was in action here Tuesday at the Dick Pollit Invitational hosted by Waverly-Shell Rock.
Instead of running the meet with varsity and junior varsity races, each grade level has its own race.
Justin Callahan placed fifth in the senior division for the Lynx, as did Aiden Wardell in the freshman race. Junior Izzy Grossoehme was 12th in her event.
“Really proud of the progress our athletes have made with some huge jumps in the first few meets of the year,” WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. “Things are starting to click and we are getting them dialed in. I’d say more than half of our team had either a season best or a personal record, and that’s all we can ask for.”
Callahan clocked a time of 17:42. Gabe Thumma was 16th in 18:19.
Jack Barner finished 26th in 18:38, Arlen Lake was 43rd, Kyzer Zinnel was 44th, Leland Eggers finished 79th and Ben Youngdale was 90th.
Along with Wardell’s fifth in 18:32, Kaleb Draeger was 29th in 19:36, Jordan Betts finished 49th in 21:04, Tariq Burton was 53rd, Colten Betts finished 60th, Grayson Henderson was 69th, Owen Anderson placed 73rd and Jaxin Loughry was 107th.
Grossoehme had a time of 22:24. Julia Griep and Megan VanDeer finished 70th and 71st overall.
Abby Peterson was 98th, Heidi Mendoza 105th and Izzy McNiel 112th.
In the girls freshman/sophomore race, Mckenna Buakham was 46th in 25:40, Haedyn Soesbee finished 47th in 25:43, Rubi Andrade-Murillo was 61st, Jessica Utera was 67th and Victorious Mirembe was 80th.
“I was really proud of Aiden, Izzy and Justin,” Turner said. “They adjusted their race plans and it really made a difference.”
Webster City heads to Ballard to run on Monday.
