Tough task for Lynx footbll squad

CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City football team takes on a second North Central Conference rival on the young season, as they head to No. 3 (Class 3A) Clear Lake Friday night.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Lynx (1-1 overall) are coming off a tough 7-6 setback to seventh-ranked (4A) Fort Dodge, as the Dodgers hung on after blocking an extra-point attempt in the second quarter.

From that point on, the two played to a scoreless draw over the final 24-plus minutes.

Jaxon Griffith found the end zone and rushed for 64 yards while also catching two passes for 25 yards from Aiden Hrnicek.

Hrnicek leads Webster City with 156 yards rushing and two TDs on the season with another 48 yards passing. Kaleb Hansen has 148 yards rushing and a pair of scores while Griffith has 126.

Clear Lake (2-0) rolled Forest City in the season opener before besting defending state runner-up Humboldt last Friday, 23-7. Jaxson McIntire, who has an offer from Iowa State University, has completed 20 of 25 for 340 yards with three TDs, adding 90 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Kolby Hodnefield, a state track and field champion at South Hamilton this past spring, leads with 12 receptions for 177 yards and all three touchdowns from McIntire. Sam Dodge has 131 yards and four scores on the ground.

The Lions have won the last two meetings, including a 49-21 victory last year, and lead the series 9-2 since 2008.

Starting at $3.46/week.
