The Webster City girls tennis team honored the senior class here Monday night, dropping a tough 5-4 decision to Osage.

Allie Severe and Alivia Burns, both members of that senior group, were winners in singles. They also paired up for a doubles victory.

“It was a great chance to celebrate an outstanding group of seniors,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “It’s been such a great and fun group to work with. They’ve all contributed to much to this program and have meant so much.

“The team score didn’t go our way, as we had a few uncharacteristic showings on the court, but I thought we played well in some spots.”

Severe topped Ella Sparrow at the No. 1 position, 6-1, 6-3, and Burns followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Taylor Swenson at No. 2. The other win for the Lynx came courtesy of Natalie Segar, as she swept Renae Newton, 6-1, 7-5.

In doubles, Severe and Burns bested Sparrow and Mylie Havig, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, as the No. 1 spot.

Gabbie Sebert dropped a tough super-tiebreaker to Havig at No. 3, 6-3, 4-6 (10-7).

“Allie played really well,” Fisher said. “And Alivia played lights-out. She had a game plan and executed it. It was also good to see Natalie continue to build some confidence in singles.”

Sylvia Otteros was the other senior varsity regular honored by the program on Monday.

Earning junior varsity wins for Webster City were the doubles duos of Brooklyn Neddermeyer and Miley Mason, as well as Abby Heckert and Haylee Ades.

Severe, Burns, Otteros, Neddermeyer, Camdyn Coons, Maja Gordon, Kaylee Kohl, Josslyn Carden and Alivia Hector are the Lynx seniors, as well as manager Regan Blaisdell.

Next action for the Webster City will be on Wednesday when the Lynx host the North Central Conference singles and doubles tournaments.

Starting at $3.46/week.
