BALLARD — The Webster City cross country teams were in action here Monday night at the 45th annual Mike Carr Invitational hosted by Ballard Huxley.

The Lynx placed fifth overall in the boys standings, ahead of Atlantic and Boone. ADM was first.

Marvin Mejicano-Barahona of Des Moines North won the race.

Justin Callahan had another Top-15 showing, placing 14th in 18:27.

Gabe Thumma was 23rd, Aiden Wardell finished 27th, Jack Barner was 36th, Kaleb Draeger took 38th, Kyzer Zinnel was 44th and Arlen Lake placed 47th for Webster City.

The Lynx girls took sixth in Class A. Ballard was the team champ behind race winner Avilee Miller.

Izzy Grossoehme paced the Lynx, crossing in 21st overall at 23:18. Mckenna Buakham was 36th overall, followed by Megan VanDeer, Rubi Andrade-Murillo, Haedyn Soesbee, Marlene Saavedra Mendoza and Julia Griep.

“Sometimes, the times don’t reflect the effort these kids put in,” WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. “It was hot and miserable, but nobody quit out there. I was proud of how we competed when conditions were less-than-ideal.

“Justin and Izzy led our squads once again.”

Tariq Burton paced the WCHS junior varsity boys, finishing 42nd. Kenzie Lilly was the top girl in 56th position.

Next week, the Lynx head to Mason City. Turner added, it “is a course our kids have had a lot of success on in the past.”

The Riverhawk Invitational is Monday at 6 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
