Lynx can’t catch Nevada in tennis
NEVADA — The Webster City girls tennis team dropped a 7-2 dual to Nevada here last Thursday.
Sylvia Otteros earned a win in singles while Allie Severe and Gabbie Sebert scored a victory at the No. 1 doubles position.
Otteros, playing the three position, downed Chiara Chappell in a super-tiebreaker, 7-4. Severe and Sebert were 8-4 winners over Grace Hensley and Chappell.
“I thought we did a lot of good things,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “Nevada has some solid players and played very well. We improved in a lot of areas in the match, but sometimes, the other side just makes more shots.
“Sylvia continues to show a lot of grit and will to win. Gabbie really elevated her game and I thought Allie played one of her best doubles matches of the year.”
Natalie Segar lost a close 8-5 set to Allison Gruhn.
Earning junior varsity wins were Otteros and Maja Gordon, Abby Heckert and Brooklyn Neddermeyer, Kairi Toney and Ava Ely, and Ellie Teague and Delaney Lyons.
Next action for the Lynx will be on Tuesday when they host three-time defending North Central Conference champion St. Edmond.
