The Webster City volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five-set North Central Conference match to Clear Lake here Tuesday night.
Scores were 16-25, 25-20, 18-25, 26-24 and 15-12.
Avery Poppen had 10 kills, Jaylyn Bahrenfuss and Tristyn Wright each added nine and Evie Davis eight for the Lynx (6-5 overall, 0-2 in league). Davis also had nine blocks and Bahrenfuss five on the night.
The Lions (5-3, 1-1) came into the match having lost two of three, including a sweep at the hands of No. 7 (Class 3A) Humboldt last week. They are just 6-20 vs. Webster City since 2007, but have won two straight in the series and four of six overall.
Both Wright and Lovie Pruismann dished out 21 assists, as Wright added four aces with 17 digs. Morgan Hackbarth chipped in 27 digs.
“We came out strong,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. “We let game two get away from us and just couldn’t finish it off when we had the opportunities.”
Next action for the Lynx will be on Tuesday, Sept. 16 when they host Charles City followed by action next Saturday at the Forest City Tournament where the field includes Clear Lake, Algona, Central Springs, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, Lake Mills and the host Indians.
