The Webster City football team opened 2025 with a dominating win over Iowa Falls-Alden here Friday night, 42-8.

A 20-point second quarter allowed the Lynx (1-0 overall) to take control of the contest. Kaleb Hansen ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns, while Aiden Hrnicek added 104 and two scores of his own on the ground. Hrnicek also hit Jaxon Griffith for a receiving TD.

“I’m extremely proud of the kids’ efforts,” WCHS head coach Andy Brim said. “I thought they played really hard and adjusted to things really well as the game unfolded. Iowa Falls-Alden did a lot of different things offensively, and I thought the kids did a really nice job of focusing and being where they needed to be.

“The offensive line played really well for the first game. When you add some new guys to that unit, you never know how that first game is going to go. So it was great to see them come together and improve throughout the game.”

Webster City ran the ball 44 times for 346 yards, as Edwin Nolasco Ramos also hit paydirt on the ground. The Lynx averaged almost eight yards per rush vs. the Cadets (0-1).

Hrnicek completed one pass for 23 yards to Griffith for the score.

On defense, the Lynx had 8.5 tackles for loss, led by 2.5 from Dawson Bertran and a pair by Grant Arends. Arends had a team-high 5.5 tackles, while Griffith tallied five.

Both Griffith and Coyce Bertran picked off passes. Dawson Bertran and Carter Mickelson recovered fumbles. Griffith also forced a fumble.

“Obviously, we have a lot of things to work on still, but every team is going to after the first game,” Brim said. “It will be a great week to continue to improve as a team in all three phases of the game.”

The Lynx now set their sights on Fort Dodge (1-0) this Friday back at Lynx Field. The Dodgers edged Mason City in their opener last Friday, 20-14.

Starting at $3.46/week.
