North Polk tops Lynx

The Webster City girls tennis team came up short here Monday against North Polk, falling 6-3.

Alivia Burns, Gabbie Sebert and Sylvia Otteros all picked up wins for the Lynx in singles action, including super-tiebreaker victories for Sebert and Otteros.

Burns downed Tessa Dillinger in straight sets at the No. 2 position, 6-3, 6-4.

Sebert topped Hannah Mangae, 1-6, 6-3 (10-7), and Otteros went deep into the tiebreaker set with a 5-7, 7-5 (14-12) victory.

“We had plenty of chances in most of our matches throughout the day,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “Credit North Polk, as they have some good players and played well. They have definitely improved from last year.

“I was extremely excited for Allie (Severe) and Harika’s (Cakinberk) match, as I thought Allie played some of the her best tennis of the year.”

Olivia Bergman lost a close 7-5, 7-5 decision to Carly Jepsen at the sixth spot in the lineup, while the doubles team of Sebert and Natalie Segar lost in a super-tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6 (10-6).

“Alivia controlled her match, and it was great to see both Gabbie and Sylvia fight back to win tough matches.”

Earning junior varsity wins for Webster City were Otteros and Paisyn Bare, Ash Tinoco and Alivia Hector, Greta Kenville and Haylee Ades, and Kenville and Ava Ely.

The Lynx head to Boone on Friday at 10 a.m.
