Lynx earn pair of silvers in Boone
BOONE — The Webster City girls tennis team competed at the Boone Invitational here Friday, taking a pair of second-place finishes on the day.
Sylvia Otteros went 2-1 at No. 2 singles to score silver, as did the doubles team of Allie Severe and Alivia Burns.
Otteros picked up wins over players from Council Bluffs St. Albert and Des Moines Lincoln. Severe and Burns bested doubles pairs from Boone and Lincoln.
Gabbie Sebert and Olivia Bergman both placed third in singles for Webster City, along with Natalie Segar and Paisyn Bare in doubles. Camdyn Coons and Kaylee Kohl took fourth.
“It was nice to face a bunch of schools that we might not normally see, along with the format that’s a little different than normal,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “It was also nice to get a few more girls into the varsity action.”
The Lynx finished second overall behind champion and host Boone.
“Gabbie tested herself against some No. 1 players, as did Sylvia, moving up to No. 2,” Fisher said. “It was good for Allie and Alivia to get a chance to go up against another state qualifier from last year in Council Bluffs St. Albert, as well as a potential state qualifier in the Boone team.”
Webster City will host Charles City in North Central Conference action on Tuesday. The match is slated to begin at 4:15 p.m.
