Webster City defeats pair of plus-.500 baseball opponents
The Webster City baseball squad continues to build momentum with the postseason right around the corner.
The Lynx scored a pair of victories on the road to end last week, outlasting Forest City by a final of 14-11 before routing Osage the next night, 13-1.
Head coach Adison Kehoe’s team has now won six of its last seven games to inch closer to the .500 mark on the year at 12-15. The Indians were 16-4 before facing the Lynx; the Green Devils were 13-10.
The Forest City contest was a rollercoaster ride. Webster City led 5-0 before allowing nine unanswered runs. A six-run counter punch in the fourth put the Lynx back on top at 11-9, but the Indians plated two in their half of the frame.
A run in the fifth and two insurance scores in the seventh pushed Webster City over the top.
Gavin Griffith drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Lynx offensively, with Alex Staley and Braylon Dyvig both driving in a pair with two hits each. Staley also contributed two hits, as did Matthew Tesdahl. Staley worked 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Brady Asklund scored five times.
Webster City dominated against Osage, with four-run innings in the third, fourth and sixth. Staley, Asklund, Griffith, Aiden Hrnicek and Gordon Bargfrede all collected two hits, with Staley driving in three. Hrnicek and Kaleb Hansen both recorded a pair of RBI. Bargfrede doubled twice.
Griffith was in control, working six innings and scattering three hits with eight strikeouts.
Webster City hosts Fort Dodge on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for Senior Night and its regular-season finale. The Lynx head to Waverly-Shell Rock for a Class 3A substate opener.
