MASON CITY — The South Hamilton baseball team didn’t have an answer for Mason City Newman on Saturday.

The Hawks (5-17 overall) dropped a 12-0 contest to the Knights (25-8) in a Class 1A Substate 3 semifinal.

South Hamilton – which had scored two big postseason victories to reach this point – had six hits in the contest, led by two from Connor Deppe. Braden Young, Garrett Johnson, Holden Moore and Carson Gibbs also had hits.

The Knights managed seven hits. Cal McGurie and West Cole had two hits each. Isaiah Kesten had a triple.

Colin Biele drove in four runs. McGuire,and Kesten had two RBI each, while Gage Petersen drove in a run.

The Knights pitching staff had a combined six strikeouts.
