JEWELL — The South Hamilton baseball team scored the biggest win of their season to this point Tuesday night, stunning Janesville in district play.
The Hawks plated three runs in the sixth to rally past the Wildcats, 6-4.
Now, South Hamilton (5-16 overall) gets perennial state contender Mason City Newman (24-8) in Mason City on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in a Class 1A district final.
Senior Braden Young went the distance on the mound, striking out 10 with six hits and two earned runs allowed. He helped his own cause with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
Landon Sogard drove in three, as he finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, while both Brody Harris and Connor Deepe each had two hits.
Carson Gibbs scored twice and was walked three times.
Earlier this week, the Hawks knocked off another higher-seed, besting BCLUW, 8-3, with five unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh.
Garrett Johnson struck out seven over two-plus innings of work while Sogard picked up the win with five strikeouts.
Young had another big night, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, a double and two runs scored, as Johnson drove in a pair. Brayden Moore added an RBI and scored a run.
South Hamilton and Mason City Newman have met once before, with the Knights posting a 9-1 victory in 2023.
