Lynx fall twice to ranked opponents

The Webster City softball squad faced two ranked challenges to christen the Dave Hilton Classic over the weekend, as the Lynx dropped games to Carlisle and Martensdale St. Marys.

The sixth-ranked (Class 4A) Wildcats pulled away from WCHS on Friday, winning 11-2. The Lynx plated two runs in the first inning, but it was all Carlisle from there.

Jaylyn Bahrenfuss had the lone Webster City RBI. Jakaela Cherry, Hailey Brim, Briley VanDeer and Olivia Burns all collected hits.

Cloe Savitski and Brim scored.

Ella Smith homered twice and had five RBI for Carlisle (13-4 overall), which is coached by WCHS graduate Jim Flaws.

The Lynx grabbed a 4-1 lead early against ninth-rated (1A) MSM, but the Blue Devils took control with an eight-run fourth inning to win, 10-4.

Cherry and Savitski both drove in two runs, with Savitski ripping a triple. Breanna Bahrenfuss was 2-for-3.

The Lynx faced Humboldt on Monday night. They take on Clarion-Goldfield/Dows on Wednesday and Pocahontas Area on Thursday — both at home.

Starting at $3.46/week.
