Lynx can’t hold on against Cadets
HUMBOLDT — An early lead wasn’t enough for the Webster City softball team to hold off Humboldt here Monday night, as the Lynx dropped a 13-5 decision in six innings.
Webster City took control early, plating three quick runs, as Cloe Savitski and Hailey Brim both collected a pair of hits.
Morgan Tempel, Brim and Breanna Bahrenfuss all drove in runs, as Jaylyn Bahrenfuss, Tempel, Brim, Isabel Weinschenk and Briley VanDeer all scored.
“Humboldt made their run and we let it get to us,” WCHS head coach Brad VanDeer said. “We gave them opportunities instead of squashing their runs.”
Savitski, Brim, Jaylyn Bahrenfuss, VanDeer and Hayden McCoy each stole a bases.
Jakaela Cherry struck out six over five-plus innings of work inside the circle.
The Lynx were scheduled to face Storm Lake Tuesday, but inclement weather caused that game to be cancelled. They next return to the diamond on Wednesday at home vs. Clear Lake.
