The No. 7 (Class 2A) Webster City boys soccer squad continues to win, but the Lynx know they’re still far from where they need to be with less than two weeks left in the regular season.
Head coach Craig Signorin’s squad earned a pair of victories to close last week, handling Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, 8-2, and Wright County/Belmond-Klemme, 3-0.
Senior all-stater Eddy Fuentes-Cruz scored four times against G-H/V (2-5-1), adding a pair of assists on goals by Israel Torres. Senior Conner Peck had three assists.
Senior Fernando Rubi Antunez and freshman Jaime Martinez Andrial both added goals in the rout.
In the shutout of WC/B-K (2-7-2), Torres recorded a pair of goals in a quick burst of offense on assists from sophomore David Villelas. Senior Francisco Ramirez-Carmona also found the back of the net with an assist from Abisai Ramirez-Carmona in the 47th minute.
“We didn’t finish as many chances as we should have, but we got the job done and that was the main goal,” Signorin said of the win over Wright County/Belmond-Klemme. “Absasai’s ball to his brother JR (junior) Francisco was beautiful, and the header was incredibly placed.
“We have to play better, though.”
Webster City (9-0-0) faced Hampton-Dumont/CAL (7-1-2) in an NCC showdown on the road Monday. The Lynx next head to WC/B-K on Thursday.
