Webster City girls are the NCC tennis runner-up

The Webster City girls tennis team secured a 6-3 victory over Nevada here Tuesday night, giving them a runner-up finish in the North Central Conference.
Allie Severe, Morgan Hackbarth, Alivia Burns and Cyra Christensen were all winners in singles for the Lynx (6-4 overall, 4-1 in the league), who took of the three doubles matches to score the dual.
Severe and Burns, along with Olivia Gallentine and Hackbarth, posted victories in doubles.
Severe, Hackbarth, Burns and Christensen each won in straight sets, dropping a total of 18 games over eight sets. In doubles, Severe and Burns prevailed in a super-tiebreaker, 10-3, while Gallentine and Hackbarth won by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
“I was very proud of the way the girls played against a very good Nevada team,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “I saw a lot of good things and feel like we saw some improvements in some areas we needed it.
“It was really good to see Allie continue to develop more and more confidence. I thought Morgan and Alivia played very dominant matches and Cyra played with a lot of extra confidence.”
Webster City followed up that win by dominating Saydel on the road Wednesday by a score of 10-1. Gallentine, Hackbarth, Burns, Christensen and Gabbie Sebert all scored wins in singles, including an 8-0 victory by Hackbarth at the No. 3 spot.
In doubles, Severe and Burns, Gallentine and Hackbarth, Christensen and Sebert, Perla Torres and Karina Murray, and Sylvia Otteros and Maja Gordon completed a sweep. Torres and Murray pulled out a tiebreaker win at the No. 4 position.
“It was great to get the meet in and fun having it on a Wednesday afternoon,” Fisher said. “I was extremely happy with how we played and it’s always fun to do the 6/5 format to get more girls varsity matches.”
Earning junior varsity wins for the Lynx were Natalie Segar and Emalie Perez, Paisyn Bare and Haylee Ades, Abby Blake and Perez, Liv Hector and Camdyn Coons, and Segar and Miley Mason.
Webster City will head to Huxley to face Ballard on Thursday to finish off the regular season before hosting the NCC Tournament on Wednesday.
