FORT DODGE — The Webster City baseball team received strong pitching efforts from juniors Braylon Dyvig and Gavin Griffith to secure a doubleheader sweep over St. Edmond here Tuesday night at Rogers Park.

Scores were 8-5 and 9-3.

Dyvig went five-plus, striking out 11 to improve to 2-0 on the year for the Lynx in the opener. Griffith went six-plus in the nightcap of the North Central Conference twinbill, striking out six for his second win of the season.

Webster City (4-3 overall, 4-0 in league) scored runs in eight of the 13 innings in which they came to the plate, belting out 22 hits.

Dyvig was perfect until hitting Koleman Hanson with one out in the fifth. He recorded six consecutive strikeouts at one point, allowing just a single to eighth-grader Blake Bartlett before departing.

“Braylon and Gavin both threw well,” WCHS head coach Adison Kehoe said. “It’s a harder game when you don’t throw strikes, so they made their lives easier getting ahead.

“Consistency is key in this game and they did a good job of staying even keel and allowing their defense to help them out when needed while equally executing their pitches when they individually needed.”

Matthew Tesdahl had three hits, while Alex Staley and Dyvig both drove in two to lead Webster City.

For the Lynx in the nightcap, Carter Mickelson was 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs scored and four steals. Tesdahl contributed two hits and scored twice, and Alex Staley was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in.

Next action for Webster City will be Friday night when they host Newell-Fonda. First varsity pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
