Seven in a row for Lynx
CLEAR LAKE — The seventh-ranked Webster City boys soccer team blanked Clear Lake Tuesday night in North Central Conference action, 4-0.
The Lynx (7-0 overall, 6-0 in league) received two goals each from Eddy Fuentes-Cruz and Israel Torres, as Conner Peck recorded three assists.
Fernando Rubi Antunez had the other assist, finding Fuentes-Cruz for the opening goal 23 minutes into play. Peck hit Torres at the 35-minute mark and Fuentes-Cruz a minute later.
Fuentes-Cruz now has 83 career goals.
“Clear Lake played really tough,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “They had a lot of numbers in the box and it was tough to break them down. Our back line was solid, not giving up much in the first half, and our attack stayed patient until we finally broke through.”
Webster City finished with 17 shots including nine on goal to go along with six corner kicks. The Lions (4-5-1, 2-3-1) tallied 12 shots, six on goal and three corners.
“Conner worked really hard on and off the ball and orchestrated some great build ups,” Signorin said. “We scored quickly to start the second half and looked to keep the ball the remainder of the game.”
The Lynx will look to remain perfect when they host Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (2-4-1, 1-4-1) on Thursday, concluding the week Friday at home vs. Belmond-Klemme.
