The Webster City and South Hamilton boys golf teams wrapped up successful seasons by completing play at the state tournament on Wednesday.

The Lynx finished in 12th overall in Class 3A and the Hawks were 12th in 1A.

Leading the way for Webster City was Cael Nixon, as the senior tied for 40th overall. Sophomore Coyce Bertran tied for 55th, junior Dawson Bertran was 65th, senior Luke Firsching finished 68th, senior Cole Miller was 78th and junior Carter Mickelson placed 80th.

The group helped the Lynx end a two-year drought from state by placing third at districts. Nixon was a freshman on that team for the program.

Nevada’s Parker Rodgers won the individual title, as the sophomore shot 7-under for the two rounds. Five golfers total finished under-par for the tournament.

For South Hamilton, Luke Martensen placed 39th, Landon Sogard tied for 40th, Sam Koehnk tied for 53rd, Brody Harris was 55th, Michael Carlson tied for 58th and Connor Deppe tied for 74th.

Sogard and Deppe are seniors for the Hawks while Martensen, Koehnk, Harris and Carlson juniors.

South Hamilton finished second at districts to qualify, ending a one-year absense from the state field. Deppe, Sogard, Martensen and Carlson were all members of the 2023 team that won a district title to advance.

Keith Thompson of Hamburg was the 1A individual champion.

Starting at $3.46/week.
