The Webster City softball team squared off with No. 1 (Class 4A) North Polk to begin the season here Tuesday night, falling 10-0 in four innings.

The Comets scored once in the first, six in the third and three times in the fourth.

For the Lynx, Cloe Savitski had the only hit, roping a double.

“Going up against arguably the best team in 4A is a difficult way to start the year,” WCHS head coach Brad VanDeer said. “They just keep coming at you. Their pitching is outstanding but their offense is hard to slow down. We made some really good plays, but also had some plays that we let get away from us.

“When that happens, really good teams will step on it and that is what North Polk did.”

Webster City returns to the field on Friday to begin North Central Conference play at Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.

Starting at $3.46/week.
