Even dozen for Lynx boys

BELMOND — The Webster City boys soccer team made it an even dozen with a 4-2 win over Belmond-Klemme on Thursday.

The seventh-ranked (Class 2A) Lynx (12-0 overall) have now won 12 straight games and 13 consecutive regular season contests.

“You have to give credit to Belmond-Klemme,” said Webster CIty head coach Craig Signorin. “Ethan (Belmond-Klemme coach Krogman) had them in a defensive formation with four flat and five midfielders.

After missing two golden opportunities within the first six minutes, they were extremely hard to break down. We had possession in the majority of the game and did our best to try and connect through numerous bodies in their defensive third.”

Eddy Fuentes-Cruz recorded two goals, giving him 31 on the season and Israel Torres also reached the net twice. The assists came from four different players as Abisai Ramirez-Carmona, David Villelas, Fernando Rubi Antunez and Francisco Ramirez-Carmona.

Fuentes-Cruz, who ranks tied for second in the state in goals scored, now has 95 in his Lynx career. Only four Iowa high school players have reached 100 career goals, as Fuentes-Cruz currently ranks eighth on the all-time list.

Earlier in the week the Lynx beat Hampton-Dumont-CAL 6-0.

Eddy Fuentes-Cruz recorded a haul with four goals. Israel Torres and freshman Jaime Martinez Andrial each added a goal for the Lynx.

David Villelas and Conner Peck both tallied a pair of assists, as Abisai Ramirez-Carmona added one.

Webster City finished with 27 shots including 18 on target for the match.

Edwin Ramos Nolasco picked up another clean sheet, his fourth of the season, recording five saves.

Webster City hits the pitch four times this week starting Monday when they host Iowa Falls-Alden. The Lynx welcome eighth-ranked (2A) Aplington-Parkersburg on Tuesday before closing out NCC play at Humboldt on Thursday.

Webster City’s final regular season contest will be at home on Friday against Fort Dodge.

Starting at $3.46/week.
