Doubles teams fare well for Lynx girls at regionals

SPENCER — The Webster City girls tennis team earned a pair of Top-4 finishes in doubles on Monday in a regional meet.

Olivia Gallentine and Morgan Hackbarth topped teammates Allie Severe and Alivia Burns in the consolation championship, placing third overall. Severe and Burns were fourth.

Entering out of the play-in round, Gallentine and Hackbarth posted convincing straight-set wins to reach the quarterfinals. There, they topped the No. 4 seed from St. Edmond in a thriller, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5 (11-9).

In the finals, Gallentine and Hackbarth fell to the eventual champs from Spencer.

“Just so very, very proud of our girls,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “We came up short of any state tournament bids, but they played so well. I thought our doubles teams really impressed and opened some eyes.

“Olivia and Morgan made a lot of great plays throughout the day. Allie and Alivia flew around the court, talked, went for shots and stayed positive. I’m just very proud of the way they all four played.”

Severe and Burns also reached the semis with straight-set triumphs before falling versus a pair from Spirit Lake/Okoboji.

Gabbie Sebert and Cyra Christensen lost in opening-round singles matches.

Webster City heads to team regionals on Friday where they will face Spirit Lake/Okoboji.

Starting at $3.46/week.
