Clear Lake girls too much for Lynx
The Webster City girls soccer team got the jump on Clear Lake, but the Lions rallied for three unanswered goals for a 4-1 win on Tuesday.
The Lynx (5-7-1 overall) scored first on a Julia Griep deflection goal following a PK from Jayme Perez.
“I was so happy for Julia to get that goal…she’s had a great season,” said Webster City head coach Kristine Mason. “We looked so strong and consistent in the first half, and were able to hold them with a 1-0 lead.”
Still up by a goal in the second half, the Lynx gave up a goal to the Lions (8-5-2) on the near post to knot the score. Clear Lake would then go on to score three more goals and prevail.
“We picked it up in the latter part of the second half and played hard until the finish,” Mason said. “We had 13 shots on goal, but just couldn’t convert.
“These games are so frustrating when the score never tells the full story. We have a lot to do to build our final third confidence so we can convert more of our attempted shots.”
On Monday, the Lynx lost to Iowa Falls-Alden, 5-1. Perez had the lone goal for Webster City.
The Lynx are back in action on Thursday when they host Humboldt. Varsity action is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Webster City has two matches next week, as the Lynx host Humboldt on Monday and travel to Fort Dodge on Tuesday.
