Callahan captures gold for Lynx track

CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City boys track and field team put a cap on the regular season here last Thursday night at the North Central Conference meet.

Justin Callahan led the way for the Lynx, who finished fifth overall. Algona claimed team honors followed by Clear Lake and Humboldt.

Callahan captured gold in the 400 hurdles and a bronze in the 400-meter run for Webster City. Jayden Weinzetl and Daniel Murillo-Delfin added fourths in the 100 and 800.

“Points were tough to come by in the always difficult NCC,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “Despite missing a few kids and running a few others sick, I thought we battled and competed to the best we were able to.

“Justin had a great night with lifetime bests in the 400 and 400 hurdles. His hard work all year long is paying off and he is a great example for the younger kids.”

Zach Lahr, Max McGilligan, Dane Hansen and Murillo-Delfin were fifth in the distance medley. Jack Barner finished sixth in the 3,200 along with the sprint medley, 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

“Jayden was running under the weather but still grabbed medals in the 100 and 200,” Hisler said. “Daniel had a great night and Jack just missed a medal with a lifetime best in the mile.”

Rylan Stroner, Aiden Hrnicek, Weinzetl and Callahan ran the sprint medley; Stroner, Jamey Stansfield, Adison Punkham and McGilligan the 4×100; and Weinzetl, Murillo-Delfin, Hrnicek and Callahan the 4×400.

Starting at $3.46/week.
