The Webster City boys golf squad picked up an impressive North Central Conference home sweep on Tuesday at the Links Public Course.

Thanks to a balanced scoring effort, the Lynx edged Algona while easily defeating Iowa Falls-Alden. Webster City finished with a 152, as four different players broke 40.

“I’m very proud of the way our guys stepped up,” WCHS head coach Eric Dawson said. “They played well when we needed it.

“We finished third in the conference behind a couple of good teams in Humboldt and Clear Lake. But we’re playing well now heading into the postseason, and we hope to qualify for state.”

Cael Nixon carded a 37 to pace the Lynx. The senior was the meet runner-up, two strokes behind Algona’s Nathan Manske.

Senior Luke Firsching and sophomore Coyce Bertran were right behind for Webster City at 38. Junior Dawson Bertran had the other counting score with a 39.

Webster City was three strokes clear of Algona (155). The Cadets shot 175.

Dawson’s squad now hosts the Lynx Invitational on Thursday at Briggs Woods Golf Course. Webster City will be joined by North Polk, Gilbert, Charles City, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Ballard, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Nevada, Central Springs and IF-A.

Players tee off at 1 p.m.
