Another win for Lynx girls soccer

GARNER — The Webster City girls soccer team made it two in a row here last Thursday, picking up a 2-0 victory over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.

Jayme Perez recorded a penalty kick for a goal and Sandra Fuentes-Cruz scored on a follow-up attempt for the Lynx (3-5-1 overall, 2-4-1 in the North Central Conference).

“This was a result of our strong ability to possess and move the ball incredibly well,” WCHS head coach Kristine Mason said. “Our defense stayed composed and didn’t allow many opportunities for Garner-Hayfield/Ventura to get a look on goal.”

Coming into the match, Webster City had lost 17 of the last 22 meetings with the Cardinals (4-4, 3-3, including 11 in a row dating back to the 2018 season.

“We’ve had a tough start to the season as we’ve been rebuilding and working on our consistency and unity as a team,” Mason said. “We continue to see big improvements and the confidence of this group is growing.

“I think we play the best soccer in this conference. We don’t rely on just speed and athleticism. We have a strong technical and passing ability that, with time, will make us a force to be reckoned with.”

Kate Feltz saved all seven shots she faced in net. Julia Griep recorded an assist as Webster City had 10 shots with seven on goal.

Next action for the Lynx will be Monday when they head to Hampton-Dumont/CAL followed by a home match vs. Belmond-Klemme on Thursday.

Starting at $3.46/week.
