Webster City girls can’t stop Boone in tennis

The Webster City girls tennis squad dropped an 8-1 decision to Boone here Monday evening.

Alivia Burns picked up the lone win, as the junior scored a straight-set victory in singles. Burns bested Juliana Lutz at the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-1.

Cyra Christensen prevailed in six games at No. 5 singles for the Lynx (4-4 overall), while the No. 1 doubles team of Allie Severe and Burns won five games.

“Give Boone a ton of credit, as they are a very good team,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “I was extremely happy with how we played and I thought you could see some of the experience from our triangular with Pella and Dike-New Hartford come through in key points.

“This was always going to be a tough three-dual stretch to test us and I thought we learned a lot from it.”

Olivia Gallentine and Morgan Hackbarth pushed the No. 3 doubles team of Shannon Jenkins and Claire Hardinger to a super-tiebreaker, dropping the first set, 6-1, before winning the second, 6-4. They lost the tiebreaker, 10-8.

Natalie Segar and Emalie Perez, Liv Hector and Tegan Gillis, and Camdyn Coons and Ash Tinoco were junior varsity doubles winners for Webster City.

Starting at $3.46/week.
