Seventh-rated Lynx dominate rival Humboldt

The North Central Conference continues to belong to the Webster City boys soccer team.
Following a convincing 9-2 victory for the seventh-ranked (Class 2A) Lynx here Monday over Humboldt, they have now won 18 of the last 19 in the league.
Webster City (5-0 overall, 4-0 in NCC) scored six times in the opening half to take control of the matchup. Israel Torres and Eddy Fuentes-Cruz both had a hat trick, as Torres added three assists and Fuentes-Cruz two.
David Villelas, Aaron Mendoza and Fernando Rubi Antunez each found the back of the net. Antunez had two assists with Villelas adding one.
Edwin Ramos Nolasco recored four saves in net.
As a team, the Lynx fired off 20 shots with 13 on goal and three corners. Mendoza got the first goal of the match before Fuentes-Cruz scored in the 17th and 20th minutes of play.
“We were a little shaky to start until Aaron had a beautiful hit on a bouncing ball outside the box,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “That set the tone and we were off.
“I felt like chemistry might have been off adding a couple different starters but I felt we played are best game yet. It wasn’t perfect but I loved the effort. When we play as one, we are fun to watch.”
The Lynx host Charles City on Thursday and Aplington-Parkersburg on Friday.
“Israel had another great game. Henry played well in his first minutes on the back line. David and Fernando saw their first game and both played outstanding,” Signorin said. “We wanted to have a great showing to start the week, knowing we have two more games later in the week.”
