Another team title for Webster City boys

POCAHONTAS — The Webster City boys track and field team claimed a second title in 10 days here last Friday, winning the Pocahontas Area Invitational.

The Lynx finished with 133 points, as North Central Conference rival Humboldt was second. Storm Lake, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, Eagle Grove and GTRA rounded out the Class A field.

After running in the prelims of the 100-meter dash at the Drake Relays earlier in the day, Jayden Weinzetl made the trip back to capture gold in both the 100 and 200. The senior went 11.13 in the 100 and 22.57 in the 200.

Justin Callahan captured the 800 crown in 2:03.29, while Cole Nohrenberg won the discus with a throw of 143-7. Nohrenberg was also third in the shot put.

Kaleb Hansen was the 400 runner-up in 57.60 and placed fourth in the 200. Jamey Stansfield was second in the 400 hurdles (1:03.42), with Beau Nohrenberg earning silver in the shot put (43-9) and fourth in the discus.

Jack Barner placed third in the 1,600 for Webster City, as did Adison Punkham in the long jump. Gabe Thumma added a fourth in the 1,600-meter run, and Aiden Hrnicek was fifth in the 110 hurdles.

Daniel Murillo, Barner, Thumma and Callahan claimed the 4×800 in 8:51.71. Weinzetl, Callahan, Murillo and Hrnicek teamed to place second in the 4×400.

The 4×100 of Hansen, Stansfield, Punkham and Max McGilligan took third, as did the shuttle hurdle relay of Hrnicek, Stansfield, Punkham and Zakiah Christensen.

“We scored in nearly every event,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “We competed and gave great effort up and down the lineup.”

Webster City, which also won at Southeast Valley on April 15, competes on Tuesday at the North Polk Comet Relays.
