Lynx boys cruise to net victory
FORT DODGE — The Webster City boys tennis team got on the board here last Friday, topping St. Edmond, 7-0.
Hank Christeson, Nathan Wardell, Jesse Toftee, James Elliott and Zayden Card were all winners in singles for the Lynx.
Christeson and Wardell, along with Toftee and Elliott, picked up doubles victories to complete the sweep.
“It was great to see the boys get a win to start the season,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “For a lot of them, this is their first win. We’re at a point right now where we’re trying to build enthusiasm and excitement within the program, and this kind of a performance helps with that.”
Christeson and Wardell posted matching 8-3 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, Toftee won 8-0 at No. 3, Elliott was triumphant at No. 4 by a score of 8-5 and Card won at No. 6, 8-1.
In doubles, Webster City dropped just two games.
“I was really happy for Hank,” Fisher said. “As a senior, he has been a leader on this team for three years now. It was also good to see Nathan play well, as this is his first time out.
“All the guys played really well.”
The Lynx head to Clear Lake next on Tuesday.
