South Hamilton up to the challenge at Ballard

HUXLEY — The South Hamilton track and field squads competed this week at the Ballard Co-Ed Relays.
On the boys side, the Hawks placed second overall with 113 points. Meanwhiile, South Hamilton finished fourth in the girls standings.
Host Ballard swept the team titles.
Kolby Hodnefield, who will represent the Hawks at the Drake Relays this week, won the 100, 200 and 400. He went 10.95 in the 100, 21.90 in the 200 and 48.81 in the 400.
Braden Young added a gold in the long jump (21-4) and was second to Hodnefield in the 100.
Tanner Twedt was second in the 400 and third in the 200, while Titus Herrick finished second in the discus.
South Hamilton cleaned up in relays, winning the sprint medley and 4×400 along with thirds in the 4×800 and distance medley. Jose Babcock, Will Gelder, Nick Severseike and Twedt ran the sprint medley in 1:40.75 while Severseike, Young, Twedt and Hodnefield went 3:34.50 in the 4×400.
For the girls, Cici Herrick captured the 400 in 1:04.92. Bianca Seaton (800), Claire Hewitt (long jump) and Tessa Skartvedt (shot put) were each second.
South Hamilton won the 4×200 behind Sydnee Flaugh, Riah Van De Pol, Rosemary Chamness and Brooklyn Doolittle, adding a second in the sprint medley and a third in the distance medley.
