The Webster City girls tennis team continued their winning ways with a 7-2 victory in North Central Conference action over Clear Lake here Tuesday night.

Allie Severe, Olivia Gallentine, Alivia Burns, Morgan Hackbarth and Gabbie Sebert all picked up singles victories for the Lynx (3-1 overall, 1-1 in NCC).

“For the second night in a row, I felt like we were pretty dominating in singles,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “I think almost everyone started out down 1-0 and really took off after that.

“We had solid game plans and executions. It was also great to see Allie get a singles win as she has played some really good tennis and her matches have been much closer than the scores have shown.”

In doubles, Webster City took two of three, as Gallentine and Hackbarth, along with Severe and Burns, were victorious.

“I honestly think if Cyra (Christensen) hadn’t done something to her back at about 3-2 in singles we would have swept the match,” Fisher said. “But more so than the score and the win, it was good to see our girls continue to improve and gain confidence.

“This has been a fun group already that is also a very hard working group.”

Severe, Gallentine, Burns, Hackbarth and Sebert dropped just 14 games in the five matches they played in singles.

“I’ve felt like doubles have been a little bit behind our singles so far this season,” Fisher said. “But it has been good to see the progress we’ve made match to match with our doubles.”

Webster City is off until heading to Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday.

Starting at $3.46/week.
