Another big win for Webster City

GARNER — The Webster City boys soccer team continued their strong start to the season with an 8-2 victory over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura here on Monday evening.

Eddy Fuentes-Cruz tallied a hat trick and added two assists. Conner Peck had five assists for the Lynx (2-0 overall), who scored five times in the second half.

Francisco Ramirez-Carmona, Israel Torres, Geovany Morales Lopez and Wilmer Padilla Chavez each added goals in the win. Webster City finished with 17 shots, 10 coming on goal, and 13 corners.

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (0-1-1) kept it close early with two first-half goals.

The Lynx have won each of the last five meetings, but this was the first time the Cardinals have scored in three matches.

“I think the team and back line was frustrated giving up two goals, but that’s going to happen with how inexperienced we are — especially if our experienced players put us in poor situations,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “I can’t be disappointed in how we responded. Giving up the first goal and scoring the next minute, and giving up the second goal and scoring three in the next four minutes.

“I thought we finished in a dominant way, which we needed heading into our next match.”

Webster City hosts Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Thursday.

Starting at $3.46/week.
