JEWELL — The South Hamilton football team secured another chance to compete at home with a dominating performance here Friday night.

The Hawks rushed for almost 600 yards in taking care of Grand View Christian, 56-21, and earn the runner-up district spot. With the win, South Hamilton (4-4 overall) will now face Sioux Central in a Class 1A first round contest.

“We are happy to have another chance to play in Jewell,” South Hamilton head coach Paul Skartvedt said. “To play in front of our home crowd is a great thing.”

Kolby Hodnefield was one of three backs to rush for over 150 yards, leading the team with 189 and one touchdown on 10 carries. Nick Severseike found the end zone twice with 178 yards on 13 attempts while Ashton Williams had three rushing scores and 157 yards on 12 totes.

Hodnefield, a junior, also returned a kick 92 yards for a touchdown.

South Hamilton attempted just one pass on the night, rushing 44 times for 582 yards. Kaden Dean had the seventh score of the night.

“Our offensive line had their best game of the season Friday night,” Skartvedt said. “We are thrilled to be able to be in the playoffs again as each one of the games going forward is special for the seniors to get one more time to play with the rest of the team.”

On defense, Hodnefield recorded eight tackles with Landon Sogard making 6.5 stops. Benjamin Swenson had a tackle for loss and Severseike recorded an interception.

After starting the season 0-3, the Hawks have won four of five down the stretch. They have scored over 50 points twice during that run and have won all four games by at least two scores.

Sioux Central (5-3) was a third place finisher in the same district as Manson Northwest Webster and Emmetsburg. The Rebels knocked off East Sac County this past week, 42-26.

Starting at $3.46/week.
