The Webster City football team makes their 2024 home debut here Friday night against Spencer.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lynx Field.

Last Friday, Webster City (1-0 overall) hit the road, posting a convincing 41-13 triumph over Fort Dodge. The Lynx have now taken all four meetings with their nearby old Highway 20 rival from the west, scoring over 35 points in every contest.

The win marked an impressive debut for new WCHS head coach Andy Brim, as the veteran assistant moved into the lead position last winter.

Webster City churned out 331 yards rushing on 50 carries against the Dodgers, as junior Jaxon Griffith had a game-high 145 with a score. Spinback Luke Estlund, a senior, ran in three touchdowns and added 88 yards while classmate Jayden Weinzetl had 84 with a score.

Estlund completed his lone pass on a 13-yard connection with fellow senior Gabriel Ruby.

The Lynx forced three Fort Dodge turnovers and got a sack from Aiden Hrnicek, who had a team-high 6.5 tackles. Estlund added six stops and picked off a pass.

Both of the touchdowns Webster City allowed came on kickoff returns by the Dodgers.

Griffith also found the end zone on a 96-yard kickoff return, and Israel Torres made five extra-point attempts to highlight special teams.

Webster City improved to 73-23 overall since 2016.

Spencer (0-1), a former district rival of Webster City’s, fell to Humboldt in its season opener last Friday by a final of 27-10. Cael Bruning threw for 145 yards and a TD to pace the Tigers while also rushing for a team-high 50 yards.

That game, like Webster City’s at Fort Dodge, was tied at halftime.

Preston Pitts caught the touchdown for Spencer. Brady Vreeman logged four receptions.

The Tiger defense recorded three sacks — including two by Jack Berends — but allowed over 300 yards of total offense to the Wildcats.

Webster City won last year at Spencer, 34-7, with the Tigers claiming a 49-40 victory in 2022. Overall, the Lynx have claimed four of the six meetings between the two.

Starting at $3.46/week.
