Webster City runners fare well at Riverhawk Invite

MASON CITY — The Webster City cross country teams secured a pair of individual Top-5 finishes here Tuesday evening at the Riverhawk Invitational.

Both Izzy Grossoehme and Justin Callahan raced to fifth place medals as both the girls were fifth and the boys were sixth overall.

Mason City won the girls team title while Garner-Hayfield/Ventura placed atop the standings in the boys race.

Grossoehme, a sophomore, clocked a time of 21:08, placing just over a minute behind winner Brogan Evans of Mason City. With that time, she broke the 5K school record that was previously held by Emma Peck at 21:14.

Abby Peterson was 36th (26:29), Sydney Oswald finished 37th (26:31), Lydia VanDeer was 38th (26:31) and Karina Murray placed 42nd (29:09).

Callahan, a junior, went 17:35 to secure his strong finish as Austin Soldwisch from Waverly-Shell Rock was the individual champion.

Jack Barner finished 14th for the Lynx in a time of 18:20 while Gabe Thumma gave them three in the Top-20 by placing 20th in 18:46.

Jackson Olmstead was 44th (19:56), Ivan Lopez finished 47th (20:05), Kyzer Zinnel was 54th (20:35), Daniel Murillo Delfin finished 55th (20:47), Kaleb Draeger was 56th (20:57), Jordon Betts placed 58th (21:07) and Tariq Barton was 66th (21:55).

Next action for the Lynx will be Monday when they travel to Algona.
