Slow start hinders Lynx at powerful North Polk

ALLEMAN — The Webster City football team was unable to overcome a quick start by North Polk here Friday night, falling 41-8.

The Comets (3-0 overall) — a consensus Top-5 squad in Class 4A — jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead behind a 22-point second quarter. They rushed for 182 yards including 109 and two scores by BJ Tate Jr.

Cael Nixon had his best game of the season for the 3A Lynx, as the senior rushed 22 times for 96 yards and a touchdown. Jaxon Griffith added 64 yards on the ground and tossed a 27-yard pass to Carter Mickelson.

Jayden Weinzetl and Nixon each got in on a sack while Griffith had seven tackles.

Last year, the Lynx (1-2) picked up a 21-20 victory over North Polk, who started the season with back-to-back wins over Carlisle and Bondurant-Farrar.

Before jumping into district play, Webster CIty will host West Delaware (0-2) this Friday night.

Starting at $3.46/week.
