Lynx win in straight sets
The Webster City volleyball picked up a key North Central Conference sweep over Hampton-Dumont/CAL here Thursday night.
Scores were 25-17, 26-24 and 25-20.
“The girls played really well and communicated,” said Webster City head coach Jess Howard. “They played well on offense and kept the defense on their toes.”
Olivia Gallentine led the way for the Lynx with 13 kills while Marissa Hedeen added 11 and Avery Poppen had five.
Tristyn Wright recorded 16 assists with Gallentine finishing the night with 15.
“It was good to see the girls rally in the second set,” Howard said. “We got down big (9-2), but kept our composure and inched our way back.”
Morgan Hackbarth had a team-leading 15 digs with Cloe Savitski right behind with 13 and Gallentine adding eight. Hedeen had three aces and Hailey Brim two with Hackbarth, Wright, Gallentine and Brim all finishing 100 percent serving for the match.
Webster City has won each of the past 10 meetings between the two.
“We did a good job making sure to ride the momentum,” Howard said. “We came out strong (third set) after coming out flat in the second set and we drove it home in set three.”
The Lynx take on St. Edmond in Fort Dodge on Tuesday.
