One final non-district tune-up awaits the Webster City football team this week.

The Lynx host West Delaware here on Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Coming off back-to-back defeats at the hands of Spencer and third-ranked (Class 4A) North Polk, Webster City (1-2 overall) will try to right the ship before heading to Clear Lake next Friday to begin district action.

Last year, West Delaware (0-2) picked up a 42-13 victory over the Lynx behind quarterback Brent Yonkovic, who ran for 217 yards and threw for 87 with four combined touchdowns.

Yonkovic is back, having racked up 345 yards on the ground with five TDs while throwing for another 219 to date. Senior Seth Jackson is his favorite target, hauling in 15 balls for 146 yards.

The Hawks have started the year off with losses to sixth-ranked (4A) Decorah and No. 8 (4A) Western Dubuque by a total of 14 points.

In a loss to North Polk last week, Webster City was led by Cael Nixon, as the senior found the end zone in the third quarter and rushed for 96 yards.

Jaxon Griffith, a junior, leads the team with 299 yards on the ground while Nixon has 139.

Lynx quarterback Luke Estlund has rushed for 121 yards and three scores, while throwing for 64 with a touchdown to Carter Mickelson.

Aiden Hrnicek, Estlung, Griffith and Eli Estlund all have at least 10 tackles to help pace the Webster City defense.

Starting at $3.46/week.
