HONOR ROLL

Delainey Bargfrede capped off her softball career with another slot on the IGCA All-State softball team.

The Lynx senior was named to the Class 4A third team for the third consecutive season.

“You have to earn these honors, not just in season, but well before the season starts, and honestly it starts way before you get to high school,” said Webster City head coach Brad Van Deer. “Delainey decided at an early age that she wanted to be something special and because of that she is now being recognized for everything she has worked for.”

Bargfrede, who pitched four years for the Lynx, will take her talent to the Division I level, playing at Western Kentucky University.

In her final season she was a stalwart for Webster City, posting a 15-6 record with an ERA of 1.18. She struck out 218 batters in 138.1 innings pitched, and opponents batted only .186 against her.

Since becoming a regular starter as a freshman in 2021, Bargfrede won 60 games, struck out 732 batters — including 643 in the last three years combined — and helped lead the Lynx to a record of 47-7 in the North Central Conference, with league titles in 2021 and 2022.

“I’m very proud of what Delainey has been able to accomplish during her career as a Lynx softball player,” Van Deer said. “Being recognized yet again as an All-State performer is a tremendous accomplishment.”

Bargfrede wasn’t just a threat in the pitching circle, she was one of the Lynx better hitters.

In 2024, Bargfrede led the Lynx in hits, triples and batting average. She was a unanimous first team all-North Central Conference selection, and participated in the IGCA All-Star Showcase Series in Waukee.

“We all look at the pitching, and that is what is most noticeable, but she has been a very good hitter throughout her career as well,” Van Deer said. “Her actions speak for themselves. She was always putting in extra time and effort.

“I’m just very excited to see what she is able to do at the next level.”
