The South Hamilton baseball team enters the postseason having won five in a row, including a 10-2 victory last time out vs. Pocahontas Area.
Now, the Hawks look to start another streak as they begin postseason play here Monday at Mike Penning Athletic Complex.
South Hamilton (10-10 overall) hosts BCLUW (7-12) in a Class 1A, District 5 opener at 5 p.m. Heavy rains led to a postponement of the contest on Saturday.
During the current win streak, the Hawks have scored 35 runs while allowing just eight. They are 8-3 over their last 11 including a 3-2 loss to top-ranked (2A) West Marshall on the road last month.
Senior Owen Duns is hitting .377 with 14 runs, 13 RBI and eight doubles while junior Landon Sogard has a .286 batting average to go along with 20 RBI, 10 runs, two homers and two doubles.
On the mound, Sogard owns four wins with 56 strikeouts while senior Prestin Van De Pol has a 2.66 earned run average and 31 strikeouts.
For BCLUW, senior Cael Keller is hitting .485 with 27 runs, 15 steals, 12 RBI and five doubles, senior Calvin Zoske has a .448 average with 27 RBI, six doubles and two homers, and junior Owen Myers owns four wins and 59 strikeouts on the mound.
Awaiting either South Hamilton or BCLUW will be multi-time state champion and third-ranked Mason City Newman (27-5) on Tuesday night.
