Hawk softball team falls in postseason opener
JEWELL — The season came to an end here Monday night for the South Hamilton softball team.
The Hawks dropped a 9-4 decision to Grundy Center in a Class 2A, Region 6 opener.
With two outs in the third, the Spartans busted things open, scoring four runs with two outs to take a 6-1 advantage.
South Hamilton scored its first run when Tanna Thompson crossed home on a wild pitch. They would make it 7-2 in the fourth before leaving the bases loaded to end the inning.
Kendra Hoversten added a fifth inning sacrifice fly for an RBI.
The Hawks finished the year 13-17 overall, with the 13 wins being the most since they went 19-10 in 2019 and a nine-game improvement over a year ago.
Seniors Dakota Oberender, Makena Galetich, Thompson, Hoversten and Ashlyn Erickson all played their final game in a South Hamilton uniform.
