Olson helps lead Tarleton State

Former Webster City and Iowa Central standout Tyler Olson helped Tarleton State make history recently.

The Texans became the first school to win a conference tournament during NCAA Div. I reclassification, claiming the Western Athletic Conference title.

Tarleton State went 5-1 during the event, including a 9-1 victory over California Baptist in the championship game. They also became the fourth school from Texas to capture the WAC title, joining Rice, UTSA and Sam Houston.

Olson appeared in 14 games, recording 12 strikeouts on the year. The junior had his longest outing of the season in May vs. California Baptist, pitching six innings with three strikeouts.

As a sophomore for Iowa Central, Olson was 6-1 with two complete games and 61 strikeouts in 48 innings on the mound. During his senior season with the Lynx, Olson was 8-0 with 88 strikeouts and just three earned runs allowed in 56-plus innings.

Tarleton State submitted a request to the NCAA for reevaluation of the postseason ban for reclassifying institutions. However, it was denied by the NCAA.
