Hawk girls play in HIAC meet
STATE CENTER — The South Hamilton girls golf team placed sixth here Wednesday at the Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference meet.
Roland-Story was crowned the team champions at Lincoln Valley Golf Course with Nevada, West Marshall, Perry and Greene County rounding out the Top-5.
Olivia Axmeer of Nevada earned medalist honors thanks to her round of 76.
Leading the way for the Hawks was Rebekah Carlson, as she finished 10th with a 90. Teammate Abby Adamski was 16th with a 97 while Arynn Luppes finished 35th, Hailey Johnson 40th, Macy Conklin 43rd and Abby Richardson 45th.
Carlson had pars on the final four holes of the front nine on her way to a 44, adding two more pars on her first two holes of the back. She had a stretch of par scores on seven of eight holes during the round.
Adamski recorded a 44 on the back to cut several strokes off her final score.
“Becca and Abby both had a great first round,” South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. “Their short game was tremendous. They lost some of it in the second round which accounted for their higher scores.
“Arynn had a solid 18-hole score for us. Hailey helped us finish out our team score. For a first year player, playing on a tough course, I was very happy with her performance.
“I thought the course played tough. The fairways were long with not much roll and the greens were fast and didn’t hold well. Not a good combination.”
The Hawks will host four other schools on Friday at the Jewell Golf and Country Club. Joining South Hamilton will be Eagle Grove, Greene County, Roland-Story and West Marshall.
