Lynx fight off Algona in season opener

The Webster City softball team rallied here last Friday, securing a 4-3 victory over Algona in their season opener.

After falling behind 3-0 to the Bulldogs, the Lynx (1-0 overall, 1-0 in North Central Conference) scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Delainey Bargfrede, who has signed with Western Kentucky University, earned the win inside the circle. Bargfrede struck out 10 and walked just one with six hits allowed.

Adeline Tesdahl and Breanna Bahrenfuss both had a hit and scored a run, with Lydia Van Deer driving in two with a double. Morgan Hackbarth came home as well, as did Ellie Weinschenk.

Tesdahl and Alivia Burns both stole a base for Webster City. Tesdahl and Van Deer both drew walks with Bargfrede, Hackbarth and Bonnie Nohrenberg all reaching base after being hit by a pitch.

Cloe Savitski recorded 10 putouts on 10 chances with Bargfrede, Hackbarth, Bahrenfuss, Van Deer and Weinschenk all recording perfect fielding percentages.

The Lynx host Storm Lake Tuesday night. The Toreadors (2-0) have outscored their first two opponents, 24-1, besting OABCIG and South Central Calhoun.

Webster City has won four of the last five meetings between the two, with Storm Lake claiming a 5-4 victory last season.
