Weinzetl wins 100 for Lynx boys
GOWRIE — Jayden Weinzetl showed off his speed on a perfect night for running here Monday at the Southeast Valley Invitational.
Weinzetl won the 100-meter dash and was second in the 200 as the Lynx placed fifth overall in the Class A team standings.
Madrid won overall gold with Roland-Story second and Southeast Valley third.
Weinzetl, a junior, clocked a time of 11.58 to best Dreyvon Steadman of Southeast Valley and Fiston Carlson from Roland-Story for the title. In the 200, he went 23.82, just behind Tyler Fuller from Madrid.
The Lynx won the distance medley relay in a time of 3:39.47, finishing over two seconds ahead of Gilbert. The Webster City 4×100 placed second in 44.94 just behind Roland-Story.
Justin Callahan was third in the 400 hurdles in 58.90 as the winner, Alex Saxton of Madrid, clocked a time of 58.18 and the runner-up, Jace Hanson from Southeast Valley, went 58.55 in a close race.
Competing in the Class B events, Landon Griffin was second in the shot put and Sam Youngdale fourth.
The Lynx compete at the Saydel Invitational on Thursday.
