Webster City sweeps Clear Lake in soccer
CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City boys and girls soccer teams opened their season with a sweep of Clear Lake here on Thursday.
The Lynx boys routed the Lions, 5-1. Webster City, which qualified for the 2023 state tournament and returns its main core from that 14-2 North Central Conference championship squad, scored five goals in the first half and never looked back.
All-state player Eddy Fuentes had three first-half goals, with fellow all-stater Eduardo Perez adding a pair of scores.
The Lynx girls edged Clear Lake, 1-0. Senior Jillian Symens had the lone Webster City goal, with goalkeeper Joleah Stuhr earning the shutout in the net.
Both squads face Garner-Hayfield/Ventura in their home openers on Monday. Matches begin at 5:30 p.m.
